CHAPTER 4
Chapter 4: The Regional Legal
Firm
In our Second scenario, we
will be looking at the medium-sized firm "Savill & Savill", which has
three offices spread around Texas (Dallas, Austin, and Houston) and an
office in Mexico. Initial conversations with the company have informed
us that they have multiple NY4 domains. Their goal is to consolidate the
domains if possible and bring their infrastructure up to the latest
versions so that no update is needed for another five years.
Once again as with our
first scenario, the core stages remain the same:
-
Discovery
-
Design
-
Deployment
We will build on the steps
we performed in the first scenario, since the starting environment is
more complex with multiple domains and multiple physical locations. Our
design process will remain the same, however: one forest, one domain,
one OU, and additional instances as needed.
- The Main Objects
- The Physical Structure
- Other Services
- The New Infrastructure Design
- New Domain Structure
- The Name
- Sites
- Domain Controller Placement
- Service Placement
- OU Design
- The Upgrade Path
- Preparing the New Domain
- Raise Domain and Forest Level
- Create Subnets and Sites
- Add Additional Domain Controllers in Sites as Required
- Move FSMO Roles and GC Assignment
- Ensure Policies (Group Policy) Configured
- Migrate the Resources
